Action Alert – Road Funding Plan

– ACTION ALERT –

Dear Partners/Stakeholders,

The Lake Superior Community Partnership is closely monitoring various road funding plans in the state Legislature following the defeat of the Proposal 1 state transportation ballot proposal. This issue is moving quickly and we hope our partners and stakeholders will oppose the cuts to economic development.
Of particular concern is a State House proposal. The House plan as proposed:

  • Considers drastic cuts to the state’s economic development efforts (here you can see where they will be made)
  • Appears to completely eliminate the award-winning and highly successful Pure Michigan promotional program.
  • Allocates more state general fund dollars to roads – $700 million by 2019, although that number can change year to year during the appropriations process. Largely accounting for this increase is anticipated future general fund revenue growth.

Action Requested: Please urge your legislators to oppose.

  • 10:30 am: HB 4607 & 4608 (21st century jobs fund and MSF fund)

This plan will have a major impact on business interests in Upper Michigan, and we anticipate other transportation proposals from lawmakers in the months ahead. The LSCP and its partners at the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance will continue to closely monitor this issue and keep you informed and engaged.

UPDATE: 6.15.15

Last week the House passed the package of transportation bills including HB4607 & 4608. Our focus is now on the Senate to stand up for economic development funding.
