Eagle East new potential mine site

Eagle Mine is hoping their discovery of a potential new mineralized area will extend the life of the mine in northern Marquette county. Last June Lundin announced that exploration drilling found a new zone of nickel and copper mineralization a little more than a mile east of the Eagle deposit. They call the site Eagle East.

Lundin is now working on a feasibility study and permit review to extract the copper and nickel. The study should be complete by the end of 2016.

“We’re really excited about this discovery and it wouldn’t have happened without the dedication of our exploration and geology team,” said Meagen Morrison from Eagle Mine. “The addition of Eagle East will help our business and invest nearly 100 million dollars into our business which will benefit the community and our employees.”

If mined, the life of the Eagle could be extended by one year to 2023. Lundin officials say the Humboldt Mill Processing Plant will not need any modifications and the tailings pit has sufficient capacity for additional volume. They also say the amount of truck traffic will not increase.
