Virtually Tax Free Land & Buildings

Michigan's Renaissance Zones are regions of the state designated as virtually tax free.

By law, Renaissance Zones waive the following local and state taxes:

1. Michigan Single Business Tax
2. Michigan's 6 mill State Education Tax
3. Local Personal Property Tax
4. Local Real Property Tax
5. Utility Users Tax

These taxes represent nearly all state and local taxation on a Michigan business.

A business would pay unemployment insurance, social security taxes, workers' compensation, sewer and water fees which are either federal taxes or fees for services. Businesses would also pay property taxes which results from local bonded indebtedness or special assessments so as not to jeopardize the community's current bonds. Businesses would also pay Michigan's six percent sales tax. Michigan does not allow local sales taxes.
