PARKS

Residents of Marquette County are blessed with beautiful parks to experience in every season. Some of our larger parks with their activities are listed below.

Al Quaal Recreational Area

Located in the City of Ishpeming, this park is open year round for family fun. In the summer, there’s playground equipment, hiking and biking trails, fishing on Teal Lake, and horseshoe courts. The 4th of July is celebrated with a community picnic, food vendors, softball games and live entertainment at the Park.

Winter brings new experiences. Over 20 kilometers of cross country ski trails beckons skiers from all over the country. Deemed one of the most beautiful trail systems by “Traverse Magazine”, these trails offer unbelievable scenic overviews. For trail passes and prices, visit www.noquetrails.org. For family fun, there’s a small sledding hill that even the smallest toddlers can enjoy. The log lodges at either end of the park are available for rental. Contact the City office at 906-486-4181.

Mattson Lower Harbor Park and Kids Cove

Located on the shores of Lake Superior, the Mattson Lower Harbor Park hosts several events throughout the year including the International Food Festival, Seafood Festival, Gospel Fest and the Winter Festival.

Children and their parents love the Kids Cove. It’s a community designed and built play area with slides, swings, lookouts, and a host of other activities to get you moving. Picnic tables and an ice cream shop are open during the warm weather months. In winter, bring your ice skates for a good time on the open ice rink.

Presque Isle Park and Ore Dock

One of Marquette County's most beloved attractions, the pageantry of Marquette's Presque Isle Park offers splendid opportunities to experience the gift of the great outdoors any time of the year.

Unmatched by natural beauty, the 323-acre park offers a free roaming refuge for white tail deer. Walk the beaches, travel through the wooded forest, enjoy evening concerts at the band shell, take a leisurely drive on the narrow road circling the isle (Peter White Drive) or stop for a picnic. Numerous cooking grills and tables are provided. In the winter the Presque Isle Pavilion is open with coffee and hot chocolate.

View Great Lakes ore freighters being loaded with iron ore pellets at the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad Ore dock.

An ice cream stand operates Memorial Day through Labor Day. The shiras pool and waterslide are open mid-June through Labor Day.

Enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the winter months.

The road to Presque Isle will remain open until 11:00 pm nightly. Restricted hours for walkers are:
