LSCP celebrating 20 years

MARQUETTE – Believe it or not, the time is here! Time to kick off the celebratory year of the LSCP’s 20th anniversary!

For those of you who are too young to remember, the LSCP was created during the loss of the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. This was a devastating blow to our region that caused community leaders from all sectors and corners of the county to come together, knowing the turn of the economic tide could not be done alone. And thus, the Lake Superior Community Partnership was born!

Since its inception, the LSCP has grown far beyond its intended scope. Through decades of work with businesses, organizations, leaders, legislators and municipalities, the LSCP has become Marquette County’s leading resource for economic development. Our journey is ongoing and has come with successes, challenges, and endless learning opportunities. We are excited to celebrate the progress seen not only in our organization, but in the community as a whole!

To kick off the next year, we are bringing back an old favorite fundraiser, Comedy Zone. This was the brainchild of founding board member Don Ryan, who is also hosting this year’s event. Comedy Zone takes community leaders out of their day jobs and puts them on stage as performing comedians. It is being held at Ramada Marquette on Thursday, Nov. 9. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and networking, with the show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 for LSCP partners and $50 for non-LSCP partners. Tables of eight are available for $500, includes logo recognition and eight drink tickets.

Tickets are expected to sell out, so be sure to purchase yours at www.marquette.org. You won’t want to miss this, as we have quite the talent line-up! Performers include: Stu Bradley, Dennis Smith, Bill and Pat Digneit, Rick Rhoades, Faye Nesbitt Elder, Dale Hemmila, Don Ryan, Rusty Bowers, and more comic surprises!

Another way we will celebrate our 20th anniversary this month is to invite founding board members to help us recreate the signing of our articles of incorporation. We will be accompanied by John Marshall and Mike Skytta, who are original signers of the document. If you are a founder and believe we may not have your current information, please contact our office at 906-226-6591.

Looking to the future… if you have been involved in the LSCP in any way over the past 20 years, then you have to mark your calendar for our annual dinner! The dinner will celebrate all who have made the last two decades possible, and we want you there. The dinner is Thursday, March 1st and you can register anytime by February 19th. So board members, committee members, partners, past employees, and clients, please make plans to join us.

Stay tuned for more news and events as our anniversary year continues. Too often our heads are down, plugging away at the next challenge for us to stop and take in the hard work and success of so many.
