Air Service returns from Sawyer International Airport to Minneapolis

MARQUETTE – The County of Marquette and Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) are pleased to announce the return of non-stop air service from Sawyer International Airport (MQT) to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) on SkyWest Airlines, operating as Delta Connection.

Non-stop service to Minneapolis will return in March 2017. This new service will conveniently give Marquette residents the ability to connect to over 500 flights worldwide from Minneapolis.

“Marquette County is pleased with SkyWest Airlines’ decision to bring back service to Minneapolis,” said Gerry Corkin, County Board Chairman. “Staff at the airport has worked diligently to put forth a business case to show that there is a demand locally for the service, and we think SkyWest will be pleased with the response from passengers as service begins.”

Sawyer staff and the LSCP have worked with Trillion Aviation to open additional service doors for the airport. Local private business and Travel Marquette have financially supported these efforts over the last year.

“I am very pleased and excited that SkyWest chose to reintroduce the Minneapolis market to our community,” commented Duane Duray, Airport Manager with Sawyer International Airport. “These flights will become a great benefit for our business and leisure travelers. Also, I would like to thank the Marquette County Board, the local business community and Trillion Aviation for all the help and support, without which we would not be in this great position.”

“Air service is critical to a successful economic development portfolio as we need to effectively move people and product,” says Amy Clickner, CEO, LSCP. “This year long collaborative effort has paid off; however, we cannot become complacent. Retaining and growing air service in Marquette County must remain a priority.”
