Marquette, Mich. – Derek Bush, Business Development Representative of the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP), has recently achieved his Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) Certification. EMSI Certification is labor market education designed to help individuals become experts in EMSI data so that strategic issues can be approached with confidence resulting in better decision making for the community.

EMSI Certification is about gaining a deeper understanding of the data and methodology that is used in EMSI’s Analyst tools. It’s for those who want to dig deeper into the sources and unique data processes. The program is designed to explain what data EMSI produces and how it is made. The end goal is to turn current users into experts on EMSI data so they can use that data to answer important questions and feel comfortable defending it.

EMSI Certification covers the basic elements of using labor market information, as well as what makes EMSI’s data unique. The five modules, designed to be taken in sequence, delve into the following main categories:

Module 1: What is LMI? The EMSI Data Process
Module 2: EMSI Sources and the Final EMSI Products
Module 3: Using Occupation Data
Module 4: Finding Driver Industries
Module 5: Supporting Industries Through Education and Economic Development

Bush completed the month-long course that included quizzes and rigorous hours of studying to pass the exam, completing its requirements by obtaining a 90% or higher. Currently, there are only 131 people in the United States that have successfully become EMSI Certified. Of those 131 people, there are 10 people in the State of Michigan that are certified, Bush now being one of them.
