CHAMPION, Mich. (September 23, 2014) – Eagle Mine announced today the official start of operations and it is ramping up production of nickel and copper concentrates. This news culminates more than a decade of work to bring the nation’s only primary nickel mine into production.

Mike Welch, general manager of Eagle Mine said, “I appreciate all of the hard work by the Eagle team and our contractors, especially the skilled trades, and congratulate them for their commitment and dedication.” He added, “As we begin operations and producing high quality concentrates for our customers, we will continue to work to the highest standards of safety, environmental protection, and community engagement – just as we always have at Eagle.”

Ore from the Eagle Mine is being shipped to the Humboldt Mill and processed into nickel and copper concentrates. The separate concentrates will be loaded into covered rail cars and shipped to customers starting mid‐October.

Full production of 2,000 tonnes/day is expected to be reached by Q2 2015.
