In collaboration with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) and UPWARD Talent Council are offering Cliffs Natural Resource’s Empire Mine displaced workers a job portal to assist with securing new employment opportunities.

On January 23, the UPWARD Talent Council will host an event at Ronn Hall (1206 Baldwin Ave, Negaunee) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to assist applicants with using the system. Computers and staff will be available to provide access to the site and assistance with resumes.

“The employee side of the talent portal is now available for any displaced workers from the Empire Mine,” said Deb Doyle, UPWARD Talent Council Executive Director. “This portal is an additional resource for the impacted miners to connect with employers for that next job.”

The portal, Match UP, allows businesses to post their job openings in career categories including business services, environment, health and safety, operations, supply chain, skilled trades and technical, though these categories are not required.

“Every day we hear from our business clients that they are in need of talent. Match UP is a way to engage those employers with a readymade pool of skilled workers,” commented Amy Clickner, LSCP CEO. “Thanks to the MEDC, there is no charge for businesses or applicants to participate.”

For displaced employees of the Empire Mine looking to access the portal or businesses seeking to post jobs, contact matchupjobs@marquette.org or call (906) 226-6591 for access. Displaced employees are also encourage to stop by a Michigan Works! Service Center for assistance registering in the portal.
