Plus One Program

The Lake Superior Community Partnership believes that the creation of a single job has a ripple effect on its’ regional economy.  It creates an income, contributes to a family, it funds federal & state government, buys lunch, school clothes, new shoes and a car.  It pays the heat & electric bills, cell phone, cable, a night on the town, doctor’s bills, mortgage payments and haircuts.  The new job creates a ripple, just like a drop of water into a still pool of water.

The Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) is dedicated to regional economic and community development.  As part of those efforts, the LSCP along with Michigan Works!  developed a program called Plus One to highlight job creation in Marquette County.
Originated by the LSCP Chairman’s Circle, the Plus One program was designed to spur business expansion within our existing business community, by encouraging LSCP members to create one new job.
The Plus One program is designed around the premise that an employer adding just one employee contributes to economic development in Marquette County.  This program centers on recognizing the impact of businesses that create at least one new position have on the growth of our regional economy. These businesses receive a plaque and are recognized through press releases, LSCP podcast, RSS feeds, Business After Hours events, award presentations and a designated spot on the LSCP Web site www.marquette.org. Since the inception of the program five years ago, we have recognized Marquette County businesses that have collectively created over 1,026 jobs!
The LSCP encourages business growth through the Plus One program, and are prepared to assist your business in making the right moves to expand and add new jobs to our economy.  Our services include site selection; incentive and financial assistance; strong networks locally, statewide and nationally; demographic, wage, and economic data; assistance with navigation through local and state government requirements; access to workforce training and recruitment resources; business start-up, expansion, and succession and exit assistance.

In 2010, we recognized thirty Marquette County businesses who collectively created 272 new jobs.  Does your business deserve to be recognized next?  Are you ready to become a part of Plus One?  You can make a difference in the economic development of Marquette County!
