Live it U.P.

Posted by on May 3, 2012

The Upper Peninsula is home to hard working people who enjoy outdoor recreation, music, locally crafted products, culture and nightlife.  There is room to join this creative, active and prosperous community, and the Lake Superior Community Partnership and Michigan Works! are introducing just the platform to showcase the unique reasons the Upper Peninsula is a great place to live, work and play…with an emphasis on work!

Marquette County is rolling out the welcome mat to job seekers, recent college graduates, businesses and the media on August 22 for our first ever “Live It U.P Career and Business Expo.”   This free, day-long business-to-business and career networking event will be the premier opportunity for jobseekers and employers to connect, as well as for residents to learn about products and services made available by U.P. businesses.
This event was created to give area businesses an additional arena to promote their business and connect to others.  The Expo is the perfect venue to not only showcase your company’s exceptional products and services, but to highlight why your business is an excellent place to work.  Any business looking to expand their customer base or attract new employees will benefit from exhibiting.  It’s a great cost-effective way for small businesses to meet and shake hands with their peers, and an opportunity for larger businesses to expand their customer base and generate brand awareness.
The Live It U.P. Career and Business Expo is modeled after the successful “LiveWorkDetroit” program that was created by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.  LSCP community development coordinator Kahlea Berry attended a LiveWorkDetroit event last year and has worked with the MEDC talent team to bring an event of this caliber to the Upper Peninsula.
Beyond attending the free expo at Lakeview Arena, job seekers and recent college graduates are encouraged to sign up for the Live It U.P. Experience.  Participants will be provided with the opportunity to network one-on-one with employers, learn about living and working in the U.P., have lunch with other young professionals and take a tour of Marquette County highlighting living and recreational opportunities available in the area.  Hosted by the Lake Superior Community Partnership and Michigan Works!, the Live It U.P. Experience will showcase dynamic new businesses, extraordinary restaurants, arts and culture centers and affordable places to live.  The goal is to show that the Upper Peninsula is a place that professional job seekers can find opportunities, and is a place to call home.
The event will conclude with a Business After Hours event to provide a unique career networking experience that enables employers to connect one-on-one with participants.
To register or for more information on how to participate as either an exhibitor or jobseeker, visit  the Live It U.P. Career and Business Expo page, under the “Participate” menu at www.marquette.org.  You can also call the LSCP office at 226-6591 and our staff will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
