LSCP’s New Online Site Selection Tool

Posted by on July 22, 2011

An essential part of business startup, expansion or relocation is site selection, or choosing a building or property to house your business.  As an economic development agency it is important that we are able to assist businesses with the site selection process by having a wealth of sites and buildings information available.
The Lake Superior Community Partnership has provided a listing available commercial properties on our Web site (www.marquette.org)  for many years, and within the past year we have upgraded our capabilities with a new on-line economic development site selection tool from LocationOne Information System.
LocationOne is a GIS-enhanced database system which provides an incredibly vast amount of detailed information on each property including  comprehensive mapping tools and detailed specifications (even right down to the R-value of the insulation!).
Probably the most impressive tool in the LocationOne arsenal is the ESRI demographic reports that visitors are able to generate.  The reports, which normally cost $75 to $100, are free of charge and easily generated right on the property page.  The reports can be run to find detailed demographic information in specified mile radii around each selected property, such as income profile, business summary, housing, traffic and so much more.
But LocationOne’s abilities don’t stop there.  Each town and township in Marquette County has a “Locality Profile” allowing for their own section on the site database.   Sites and buildings can be searched by specific locality, and each locality profile can offer information on the community’s Livability, Business Climate, Infrastructure and Workforce.  What’s even more impressive is that each locality or municipality’s profile and property listings can be drilled down and integrated with their municipal Web site.  This will allow visitors to a municipality’s Web site to search for properties within that community without having to leave the site or sift through other properties in other communities.
LocationOne is an essential tool that will help us be able to provide as much information as possible for site selectors.  As you might imagine, most site selection research is now done online, and LocationOne Information System is compliant with the International Economic Development Council’s data standards.  Having a commercial sites and buildings tool that is IEDC compliant is a tremendous advantage when attracting site consultant’s attention to our area.
Moving forward, the LSCP continues to work with realtors and municipalities to host, list and populate this comprehensive economic development tool for Marquette County.  To take our new LocationOne sites and buildings tool for a test drive, visit our Web site at www.marquette.org.  To find out how to list your commercial property, call our office at 226-6591.
