DSC_0180The Lake Superior Leadership Academy (LSLA) is pleased to announce the graduation of this year’s Academy class. The graduation ceremony took place on May 12 at the Landmark Inn. The LSLA, a project of the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP), is a community leadership and professional development program geared toward educating emerging and potential leaders about the inner workings of Marquette County, while developing business networks and leadership skills.

During the nine-month session, class participants devote at least one day per month touring sites, learning from community leaders and discussing options about Marquette County’s future. They gain access to local and state legislators, tour businesses who are expanding in Marquette, witness a sentencing at the County courthouse, tour the jail, talk with teachers and school administrators concerning the challenges of education and learn about leadership attributes and team building with Northern Michigan University’s Student Leader Fellowship Program. Not only do the class participants gain in-depth knowledge of our community, they also expand their network of professional contacts.

With over 300 graduates, the LSLA is making an impact on Marquette County. Graduates have moved into leadership positions in various community organizations, school boards, local government and event committees throughout Marquette County.  We congratulate this year’s class and sponsors.

The Lake Superior Leadership Academy is now accepting applications through August for the 2016-17 class, which will begin in September of 2016 and run until May of 2017.  Potential participants can receive applications for the class by calling 226-6591, visiting www.marquette.org or by stopping in the LSCP office, located at 501 South Front Street, Marquette.
