LSCP Academy time is here again

Amy 2 It’s that time of year again, the Lake Superior Leadership Academy (LSLA) applications are starting to roll in and the planning has begun. I know the 361 alumni can vouch for how valuable this program is.
Established in 1998 with the firm conviction that today’s leadership has an obligation to nurture tomorrow’s leaders, the Lake Superior Leadership Academy was created as a joint effort between the LSCP, Marquette Area Chamber and Ishpeming-Negaunee Chamber to bring together new, emerging and potential leaders from the Marquette County area to address pertinent community needs, strengthen individual leadership abilities and encourage participants to personally commit to assuming leadership roles in the community. Our hope is that each of these individuals move into leadership positions in various community organizations, school boards, local government and event committees throughout Marquette County.
It is always an exciting time to see who will be joining us for nine months of learning and growing both personally and professionally. Each year we receive a plethora of applicants from all different sectors and whether you work in education, insurance, health care, economic development, sales or marketing; this program is a great way to strengthen your leadership skills, your network and get an in-depth view of Marquette County’s inner workings.
On September 21st we will kick off the LSLA retreat with dinner and a group activity. The following day sets the stage for the program which will include structured exercises exploring the dynamics of our society, analysis of individual leadership and decision making styles and effective utilization of group process.
This nine month interactive journey throughout Marquette County will include in-depth, day long sessions that focus on our regional economy, justice system, education, government, media, health & human services, community development and public infrastructure. Each day digs into these major areas of the community and explores the issue of leadership within the context of the day’s program. Participants will be able to see the potential areas for growth and improvement, as well as efficient strategies to make those visions a reality. They will also gain an understanding of challenges faced by our community. The program ends with graduation in May. This group will build a solid network within themselves and their presenters and carry those relationships for years to come.
We strive to establish and maintain a climate where individuals may develop their potential and maximize their contributions to our area. No matter what stage you are in your career you can volunteer in the community, serve on boards, be cheerleaders for the area and overall impact Marquette County in a positive way on a daily basis. The impact of Academy graduates, past and future, in our community is invaluable.
Roni Bur, a 2014 graduate said:
“I had a fantastic time learning about local community business, government, schools, media, the justice system, etc., from some of the most respected community leaders throughout Marquette County. I make use of something I have learned, just about every day in the office.”
Applications may be initiated individually or by nomination. Up to twenty-five participants will be chosen from the written applications. Nominees will require the full support of the organization or business which they represent. Attendance and participation in each session is essential.
