Another Team Effort

It was a typical busy October afternoon in the Partnership office, when a routine information request had turned out to be a bit out of the ordinary. Marketing and events assistant Crystal Kuklinski had been helping a customer over the phone, providing them with what seemed to be the usual visitor information.

All seemed normal accept, the phone call was getting exceedingly long, and some of the questions were getting a little strange. Then, Crystal buzzed my office. “Could you take the call on line one? It’s the Green Bay Packers!” Being a huge fan, and often times the butt of practical jokes, I assumed my good friend Stu Bradley was on the line.

By now, you probably know what they were calling about. On Tuesday, May 10, 2011 The Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour is coming to the Superior Dome! The event is being hosted by Bay Cliff Health Camp and proceeds will go to help the Bay Cliff campers.

This marks the first time that the Packers have included an Upper Peninsula destination on the Tailgate Tour. As the press release states (and they told us on the phone) they recognize the support from fans in the U.P. and want to thank them in person by bringing the tour to Marquette, along with lending a charitable helping hand.

We worked to give the representative all the information they requested about area charities, demographics, accommodations and event venues, but all decisions would be ultimately made by the Green Bay Packers.

About a month after our phone conversation with the folks at 1265 Lombardi Avenue, we received notification from Bay Cliff Health Camp that the Packers have chosen to bring the Tailgate Tour to Marquette to benefit the children of Bay Cliff.

Since then, Bay Cliff has put together a planning committee. We have been fortunate to be invited to sit at that table and be a part of the conversations. However, we certainly can not take the credit for the incredible amount of planning and hard work that has gone in to this event by volunteers, along with the work that is to come in the weeks ahead. There are tons of people coming together to make this not only a spectacular fundraiser, but a memorable event for our entire Upper Peninsula. It’s just another great example of how cooperative and community minded we are in Marquette County!

The planning is still on-going, and further information will be released when the details have been finalized. I can tell you though, that general admission tickets will be available for $5 which will include access to the Question-and-Answer sessions as well as tailgate party activities. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. There will also be a limited amount of Tailgate Party tickets sold for $30 that will give all-inclusive access to food, giveaways, Q-and-A sessions, autographs and more.

Not bad Marquette County… first the President of the United States, now the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. What a year so far!
