Rio Tinto – October Water Quality Report

Water Quality

Access to water is critical to Rio Tinto’s operations and although concern about water availability is global in nature, water impacts are experienced at the local level. At Eagle we use water at every stage of our business: for exploration, construction, mining, milling and reclamation.

Wherever possible, we seek to prevent, or otherwise minimize, the potential impacts of our operations on the environment. One example is by focusing on ways to minimize the amount of water we remove from the environment, reuse it whenever possible and return it to the environment in a state that meets regulatory standards.

At Eagle, we’ll use a state of the art, multi-phase water treatment plant to purify water from operations. This will also include rain and snow. Once purified, water will be recycled back into the mining process or returned to the environment via an infiltration system. The Humboldt Mill will also feature a water treatment plant. Once the water is treated we will reuse it in the mill process or return it back to the environment.

It’s our goal to see that the local waterways are protected. With advanced water treatment processes and strict monitoring programs in place we are confident that our potential impact on the environment will be minimized.
